Transpaleta pesadora: qué es, ventajas y cómo elegir la tuya

Weighing Pallet Truck: what it is, advantages, and how to choose yours

Do you weigh goods and then move them... or do you move them and weigh them at the same time? A weighing pallet truck does both in one go: it transports the pallet and weighs it as you lift it. It's one of the fastest ways to increase productivity in warehouses, logistics, and industry. In this guide, we explain what it is, its advantages, the types available, and how to choose the right one for your business.

What is a weighing pallet truck?

A weighing pallet truck (or pallet truck with an integrated scale) is a conventional pallet truck that integrates a weighing system into its forks. When the pallet is lifted, load cells measure the weight and display it on a digital indicator. This way, you get the weight without the need for a separate floor scale and without stopping the load movement.

Advantages over a traditional floor scale

  • Weigh and transport at the same time: you eliminate the step of moving the pallet to the scale. Faster operations every time.
  • Save space: no need to dedicate a fixed area for a floor scale.
  • Total mobility: weigh at the loading dock, in the warehouse, or next to the production line, wherever you need it.
  • Immediate control: verify weights upon receipt and dispatch instantly, reducing errors and claims.
  • Cost-effective investment: replaces two pieces of equipment (pallet truck + scale) with just one.

Types of weighing pallet trucks

Not all are the same. Here are the main types according to their use:

  • Manual: the most versatile and economical. Ideal for warehouses and general weighing and transport use.
  • Electric: with assisted lift and/or traction. Perfect for heavy loads and intensive use, reducing operator effort.
  • Stainless steel and hygienic: made of stainless steel for demanding environments (food, pharmaceutical, chemical) where cleanliness is critical.
  • Forklift weighing: kits that add the weighing function to your forklift, allowing you to weigh without lowering the load.

How to choose yours: 7 key points

  1. Maximum capacity: ensure it covers your usual load with a margin (pallet trucks typically handle 2,000–3,000 kg).
  2. Accuracy (division): the finer the division (e.g., 0.5 or 1 kg), the more precise the weighing. Choose based on how critical weight is in your process.
  3. Homologated (CE-M)?: if you are going to invoice or sell by weight, you need homologated equipment suitable for legal verification. If it's only for internal control, it's not mandatory. We explain it here.
  4. Forks: check that the length and width fit your pallets (Euro pallet, American...).
  5. Battery and autonomy: for electric models or models with battery-powered indicators, consider autonomy and ease of charging.
  6. Indicator functions: tare, sum/accumulation, piece counting, and ticket printer if you need weight receipts.
  7. Material and environment: painted steel for general use; stainless steel if you work in food, cold storage, or frequent washing.

Which sectors is it ideal for?

  • Logistics and warehouse: weight control at reception and dispatch.
  • Industry and production: weighing of raw materials and finished products next to the line.
  • Food and pharmaceutical: stainless steel and hygienic versions to meet sanitary requirements.
  • Transport: verification of loads before shipment to avoid overweights.
